La gestión forestal sostenible consiste en la explotación de los bosques y las superficies forestales de tal manera, y con tal intensidad, que se preserven su biodiversidad, productividad, capacidad de regeneración, vitalidad y potencial para cumplir, ahora y en el futuro, funciones ecológicas, económicas y sociales significativas tanto a nivel local y nacional como global, sin ocasionar daños a otros ecosistemas[4].
Sustainable forest management means using forests and forest land in a way, and at a rate, that maintains their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their potential to fulfil, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions, at local, national, and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems.[4]
